Our empty nest clients were eager to customise their newly acquired three-bedroom home purchased off the plan, transforming it into an elegant sanctuary with cosy appeal. Within the living area we coated both the walls and ceiling in a pale terracotta Marmorino plaster to create rising volume.
In response to the kitchen’s dark stone features, furnishings feature rich emerald, sapphire, ruby, carnelian and deep amethyst shades. Prioritising comfort and practicality while maximising a sense of space, we limited key pieces to oversized, sculpted blocks of colour with gently curved returns. Tactility was also a high consideration, so plush fabrics abound including a generous wool and silk rug in the lounge area. Nearby, a chenille dining banquette maximises seating for guests, acting as an additional sofa to sink into given our custom oak dining table occupies half of its length. Resolving family visits and group entertaining, the balcony features an extendable table seating up to ten.
We avoided cluttering walls with tall and bulky cupboards, pairing traditional Art Deco and contemporary materials into streamlined joinery units. They include a credenza and accompanying book shelf within the lounge room, plus an open bar with under-counter storage off the kitchen. Both feature icy green marble counters lightly braced by Walnut Burl, plus Sienna-hued door fronts that bounce light across their slick surfaces.
The primary suite takes a softer approach with custom caramel-shaded Poplar Burl bedside tables. An upholstered bedhead features a patchwork of kantha-embroided lilac and terracotta pink Ikat patterns, weaving narratives of faraway places.
